History
Gateway Baptist Church began over dinner conversation with a small group of believers who expressed an interest in
a new church fellowship in Spring, Texas. This diverse group of people explored the possibility of creating a new
church. As the discussions continued, God worked out the details of the first Sunday service, in August 1986, which
was held in the Chateau Woods Civic Center. The initial name chosen for the church was Chateau Baptist Mission. As
the church became established, the group called Pastor Rick Fowlkes as pastor on March 7, 1987. Shortly after, the
congregation decided to change the church's name to Gateway Baptist Church.
Gateway Baptist Church changed its location to a leased space on I-45 next to the Food Basket Supermarket, with the
goal to purchase property and to build a church facility. In the spring of 1992, the church purchased four acres of
land at the present location and started construction in July of 1993. On January 1994, Gateway Baptist Church held
the first service in the new building.
Since the initial purchase, the church has purchased an additional four acres. In April 2000, Phase Two was completed,
which added 36,000 square feet in worship and educational space.
Although the church has experienced much growth, it is still made up of people who have a heart for the work of God and
a love for people. Some of the original group that established the church are still members today.
