Our Mission
It is our mission of Gateway Baptist Church to share Jesus Christ in a powerful way so that we lead people into a
growing relationship with Jesus Christ as we experience the "Joy of Belonging."
Our Beliefs
Gateway Babptist Church is a cooperating Southern Baptist Church with the following cherished beliefs.
God
We believe in one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal.
- God the Father - We believe God, as a Father, reigns over all His universe with providential care. He is infinite, eternal and unchageable.
- God the Son - We believe Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God. He was of the Holy Spirit, born a virgin, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven and will literally return to Earth.
- God the Holy Spirit - We believe the Holy Spirit is the divine helper, co-equal with the Father and Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need of the Savior. He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation and provides the Christian with power for living and guidance to do what is right.
Bible
We believe in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God without any error - the sole authority for life and faith.
Man
We believe that man is a special creation of God, created in Gods image, but as a result of rebellion, all human beings are sinners in need of salvation. We believe humans are incapable of having a relationship with God based solely upon their effort.
Salvation
We believe salvation if a gift from God. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgivness can man be saved from sin's penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.
Eternal Security
We believe because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.
Baptism & The Lord's Supper
We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are symbols to be observed by the church during this present age as part of obedience to the command of Christ. They are not to be regarded as a means of salvation. We believe baptism is by immersion after salvation and it symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper is a reminder of Christ's death and anticipates His return.
Church
We believe that the church is a voluntary association of baptized believers in Christ who have come together to follow the teachings of the New Testament in doctrine, worship and practice. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, we believe every local church should be self-governing and independent from any denominational control.
Priesthood of the Believer
We believe that each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ and that God can and does speak to each individual believer independent of any other outside influence. All believers are servants of God who can pray directly to God.
Christ's Return
We believe that Jesus Christ will literally return to this earth to receive His church from this earth and to reward them according to their works.
Government
We believe in the separation of church and state, but not in separation of God and government. Christians are to be both salt and light in society.
