WHY
WE GIVE
Here at Gateway we teach and believe the words of the Lord through the prophet Malachi in Malachi 3:6—12.
God gives 3 reasons for the bringing of a tithe: that our hearts would return to close relationship with Him (v.7-8), that there may be food in His house for those who have need (v.10), and to embolden our faith through a testing of God’s faithfulness to his character and word which promises to provide until the tither has no more need (v.10).
We take these verses literally to mean 3 things:
First, that tithing is not about the church having your dollars, it’s about God having your heart.
Second, the “full tithe” (10%) should and will be used so that the storehouse of God’s church has resources for those in need, including literal food for the hungry.
Finally, if you will entrust back to God what He first entrusted to you, you will see His integrity and character reflected back to you in faithfulness and the meeting of your needs.
