“But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;” (Matthew 13:16, NKJV)
God gives spiritual sight and hearing to us once we have become born again believers in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is given to us to develop these senses in our life as we learn to walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:16). Spiritual sensitivity toward God is to be exercised throughout our entire Christian life. The Bible teaches us that those who are spiritually dead cannot understand spiritual things. We must understand that there is a difference between seeing life from a human perspective and seeing life through God given spiritual eyes. In practice, the believer should see world events differently than the unbeliever. A person with the Holy Spirit dwelling in them will recognize the convicting work of the Spirit and conform their lives to God’s will. In contrast, the person without the Holy Spirit will encounter the same people and events but still not grasp their eternal significance. The person seeking God will always hear His voice over the world’s noisy voices. His guidance will allow you to keep your bearings in the midst of confusing circumstances. We must remind ourselves not to be content with merely seeing with our physical eyes and hearing with only our natural ears. Ask God daily, through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, to give you the sensitivity to see and hear His actions around you every day.
