But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion (Luke 10:33 NKJV)
Jesus could certainly understand the temptation we face of letting busyness distract us from doing the Father’s business. Jesus told a parable that illustrated this very danger.
A Jewish man was on his way to the city of Jericho when thieves attacked him on his way. A Levite and then a Jewish Priest came along but because of their busyness passed right by the injured man. Both men had places to go and appointments to keep so they did not render aid to the injured man. Later on, a third man who was of Samaritan descent and despised by the Jews came along the path. This man had every reason to look the other way but he stopped everything he was doing in his own life and showed compassion upon the wounded man.
It is easy for us to be so busy that we are oblivious to those in need around us. Our schedules can become so full that we are of no help to the people around us. God is working in the lives of our family, friends, and neighbors. He may ask us to interrupt our busy day to help one of these people. If God impresses us to stop and help nothing on our schedule will be of greater importance. Be careful to not allow a busy schedule to cause you to miss opportunities to serve Him because missing opportunities not only is a need in someone’s life not met but you also miss out on the joy that comes from serving the Lord.
